The building was built in the period of WWII, when there was little availability of cement, so most of the masonry is structural.
Originally with 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom only and 1 service room with bathroom, the apartment did not fit to the young couple’s lifestyle.
Despite the constraints of the structure, we try to integrate the social, dinning and kitchen space.
The old service room became the bathroom of the suite of the couple, overlooking the Corcovado Christ, while the old bathroom, with part of the circulation, gave way to the closet of the suite and the 2nd bathroom. One of the rooms was incorporated into the social sector, used as a work area.
The solution has enhanced cross-ventilation and natural lighting as well as enhancing the relationship with the landscape and surrounding vegetation.
